Since its inception 43 years ago, the Black Forest AARP Chapter No. 1100 has participated in many food drives in the Black Forest community. As usual this year, our 13th consecutive year, the drive will coincide during the week of Sept. 11 to celebrate the National Day of Service and Remembrance.Local area citizens are urged to make this a successful effort on behalf of those in need in the area. Donations can be dropped off Sept. 6 ñ 14 at the merchants shown below who are partnering with the AARP chapter to collect non-perishable food with a current usage date. Cash donations will also be accepted at most of these locations. ï Black Forest Fire & Rescue ï Nizhomi Health Center ï Black Forest Jeweler ï R & R Coffee & Cafe ï Rockiní B Feed and Supply ï Papaís Assisted Living ï Black Forest Liquor ï Black Forest Pies and Grinders ï Colorado Cats ï Kettles Memory Care ï Black Forest Postal Service and Convenience Store ï Blackwood Health Center ï Firehouse on the Run The National Day of Service and Remembrance was initiated because of Sept. 11 terrorists attack. Citizens are encouraged to perform good deeds or engage in forms of charitable services during the week of 9/11 to rekindle the spirit of unity, service and compassion shared by many in the immediate aftermath of the attacks.Every contribution will create a legacy in the name of those lost and injured on 9/11, and in tribute to 9/11 first responders, rescue and recovery workers, volunteers; and our brave military personnel who continue to serve. Along the Palmer Divide, we also recognize those who responded to the devastating Black Forest fire as well as those who are still suffering from it. For questions regarding the food drive, call 719-495-2176. Please give generously.
