On July 22, District 5 High Plains Juniors Division Little League team, based in Falcon, won the state tournament for the third straight year after a hard-fought battle with the Division 2 Juniors team, Shah Heights. The road to the state tournament began with the district tournament July 7 through July 13. In the first round, High Plains beat the Arapahoe Little League team 20-3. Next, High Plains beat the Colorado Springs Little League team 18-1. High Plains came out again on top in the final game against Tri-Lakes Little League, with a 7-6 score.In the state tournament, held July 19 through July 22, High Plains was off to another good start beating the Steamboat Springs District 3 champs11-0. The next game against Shah Heights presented another win for High Plains by a score of 5-2. Shah Heights faced High Plains again July 22, hoping for a different outcome. Both teams battled hard, but after four hours and 7 innings, High Plains won the tournament 15-14. The High Plains Junior Division Little League has won the district and state tournaments three years in a row. The next challenge will be the regional tournament, which takes place in Albuquerque, NM, Aug. 2 through Aug. 6. Stay tuned for regional results in the September issue.
