Many newspaper people will agree that one of the benefits of this business is meeting a variety of people from all different walks of life. We might be small but there are some really cool people who live in our area. From business owners to an accomplished teacher, Falcon has its share of high achievers.
For example, Marie Jewelers is featured on the front page for taking on a monumental project this summer. Be sure to read about a persistent woman who found the right artisans to create a special ring for her future husband. For People on the Plains, Bill Radford interviewed Falcon resident Tally Kerr about her new bookmobile, Roadrunner Bookshop, which launched at AffoGatto in Falcon — another innovative entrepreneurial venture we featured a while back. Deb also interviewed the owners of Latigo Winery in Black Forest. After opening less than a year ago, they won The Gazette’s 2025 Best of the Springs bronze award.
There are those who are looking out for our community like Friends of Falcon president, Kevin Curry, and Lynne Bliss, who has boosted the presence of Falcon Senior Services.
So, as you can see, it’s a benefit to be in the newspaper business and connect with all these cool people.
The newspaper business also poses questions, and this is a good one: Is it ethical for investors to buy water rights and hold them for appreciation in value when a drought comes?
It’s July already, and as I write this, the humidity is doing a job on my hair — and I’m not used to it. None of us are. Colorado is dry so please weather gods, bring back the reason the rest of the country envies us — our dry air. I hate to complain because much of the country is sweltering in high temperatures and maneuvering high water, not to mention trying to stay put in heavy winds.
July 4 has come and gone, but there is plenty of summer left. I just got a note about a big celebration in Green Mountain Falls. If you haven’t been up there, it’s a fun little mountain town and not that far. On Saturday, July 26, they are sponsoring the 2025 Bronc Day Festival, celebrating 135 years of the town. There is a parade, vendor booths, food trucks, a pie contest and more. Check out broncdayfestival.org.
Thanks to our readers — you are a big part of our community, too. So, please let us know about someone else we can feature and get to know through our newspaper. We want to continue highlighting the great people of the eastern plains.
Be safe and have a great rest of July!
See you in August,
Michelle
