On April 12, 40 people, most of whom had never met each other, gathered at the property of an elderly couple whose property had been especially hard hit by beetles. The goal was to remove as many beetle trees as possible to slow the infestation. The Friends of Black Forest sponsored the event. With two large chippers and about a dozen chainsaw operators, the crew spent the day cutting, stacking and chipping slash. The project is part of the goal of the Friends of Black Forest to bring people together as “neighbors helping neighbors.” The Friends strives to unite Forest residents, keep them informed of news relevant to the Forest and to work together to preserve and protect the Forest from overdevelopment and activities that would destroy the rural, residential character of the forest.

Friends of Black Forest helped an elderly couple in Black Forest clean up their land after beetles had destroyed many of their trees.
