Springs approved for ICE office

Sen. Wayne added an amendment to the final 2007 Homeland Security Appropriations Bill that required a cost evaluation for additional immigration and customs resources in key areas of Colorado.The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Department determined there was ìsufficient needî to locate an office in Colorado Springs, according to a news release.ìThis is a step forward in addressing the critical illegal immigration crisis we face in southern Colorado,î said Allard, a member of the Homeland Security Appropriations subcommittee. ìWe must continue to address the illegal immigration crisis facing Colorado and ensure that our immigration laws are enforced.îColorado Springs is the second largest city in ICEís ìDenver Area of Responsibility,î according to the release. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and Federal Bureau of Investigation house regional offices in Colorado Springs. The FBIís Joint Terrorism Task Force in Colorado Springs often requests assistance from ICE, and the establishment of an ICE office in Colorado Springs will further streamline these operations.
