With the 120th anniversary of the El Paso County fair right around the corner, a smaller community gathering took place April 26 on the fairgrounds: the Skate into Spring celebration.
Skate into Spring was a roller skating event held on a small rink. Participants rented skates and had fun skating to music.
There was also a small petting zoo hosted by Stacy Cantu. The zoo included 2-month-old goats and lambs and an 8-month-old Alpaca. There were many vendors, including locally produced foods, snacks, hot dogs and drinks. Puppets by Averie Morgan were on hand for entertainment, along with carnival games. There was a raffle for a new PlayStation 5.
The County Fair Queen, Gretta Dickson, was at the event and shared her favorite part as the fair queen: traveling around as an ambassador for the county to other areas of Colorado and states like Wyoming and Kansas. Dickson hosted a game of musical red light, green light with skaters, with the last person in the rink earning a small prize.
The 120th anniversary of the El Paso County Fair will take place at the County Fairgrounds in Calhan, from July 12 to July 19. Stay tuned for more information in the July issue.
