Listed on Denver’s Channel 7 News Web site in January was an article from the Associate Press stating that the Colorado Citizens for Property Rights has gathered 1,200 signatures (at the time the NFH went to press) from supporters who want state constitutional amendment to limit the government’s use of eminent domain to seize property. The signatures were collected in two days at the National Western Stock Show, according to the article. They need 100,000 signatures to get the amendment on the ballot.Colorado Citizens for Property Rights is proposing an amendment to the state constitution limiting the government’s ability to use eminent domain to seize property for private uses, such as stores, private toll roads, corporate campuses and other economic development projects. The proposal would not affect the use of eminent domain for public projects like highways, schools or utilities.
