The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for the first “Citizens’ Academy” to begin April 19 for an 11-week period.Classes will provide insight into the functions of the sheriff’s office. According to the news release, participants will learn about the responsibilities facing patrol deputies, the challenges related to detention deputies and criminal investigations. There will be opportunities to accompany an officer on a ride-a-long and tours of the criminal justice center. Also included in the education curriculum is information on the use of force, vice and narcotics operations and emergency services.There is no charge, but seating is limited.
