Q&A: What they’re saying

Devin Bernard, a junior at Sand Creek High School, plays offense, defense and special teams and Ron Baker is a coach at Sand Creek.David BernardBird: Your team got off to a rough start, why was that, and what did you do to turn it around?Bernard: We weren’t able to capitalize on our red zone opportunities in the first two games, now we are utilizing the power running game, and it is working well. Bird: You play Palmer next week, what are the keys to your success?Bernard: We need to execute our blocks and get up the field on offense. On defense, we need to stop the run and force the pass and hopefully that will cause some turnovers.Rod BakerBird: Your team got off to a rocky start, why was that?Baker: We were just sort of finding our team and getting used to the new faces on the varsity roster. Bird: Since then, you guys have turned it around, how do you hope to continue this success?Baker: We just need our players to keep building on their experiences and just get better and better every day. Bird: How do you feel about your team over all so far?Baker: We’ve made great strides. Overall I am very pleased with our performance.Bird: You have a couple of tough teams on your schedule coming up, do you do anything different to prepare? Or is it business as usual.Baker: I try my best to keep it business as usual but of course the players will get a little more hyped for games against teams like Falcon and Vista but as a coach it’s my job to try to keep them focused.
