PPCC Falcon campus grand opening celebration

Pikes Peak Community College is hosting a fun family event Aug. 9 to celebrate the opening of the new Falcon campus. The event is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Falcon campus at 11990 Swingline Road at Highway 24 and Meridian in Falcon.There will be food, fun, prizes, family activities and a live DJ. Activities include a climbing wall, face painting and child identification kits. Picnic fare will be offered, including hamburgers, hot dogs, beans, chips, pop and ice cream. Visitors can enter drawings for eight $300 PPCC scholarships, sponsored by the Farmer’s State Bank and the PPCC Foundation, and three iPod Nanos.College advisors will be available, and those in attendance can enroll in college during the event. Faculty will answer questions and present information about PPCC programs offered at Falcon: animal science, natural resource technology, emergency medical services, meteorology, fire science, nursing, early childhood education, Spanish, geology, art, chemistry, history, communications, English, geography, humanities, math, philosophy, sociology, and theater.Mike Madson of KOAA TV 5/30 News First will be on hand to answer questions about careers in meteorology. The PPCC fire truck and ambulance will be on display, and fire science and EMT professionals will talk about emergency services careers.Fall semester classes at the Falcon campus begin Aug. 18. More than 135 classes will be offered initially at the new campus, with more to be added in the future. Students will be able to earn their associate of arts degree and the AA business transfer degree, take general education courses to satisfy basic college requirements, get career training and take courses for personal enrichment.
