In memory of Anna Hess

I love thee, I love but theeWith a love that shall not dieTill the sun grows cold,And the stars grow old…– Bayard TaylorAn ATV accident in Divide, Colo., July 6 claimed the life of 64-year-old Anna Hess. Anna had lived in Falcon with her husband, Elmer Hess, for 11 years.They had ridden the Divide trail many times, Elmer said. However, on this Friday afternoon, Anna lost her life to the sport they had enjoyed as a couple. When Anna’s front wheel hit a rock, she accidentally moved the throttle with her thumb, Elmer said, causing the ATV to become airborne. The vehicle landed on Anna. Within minutes, in the arms of her husband, Anna died from a head injury.The two had been married 45 years.Elmer and Anna had just retired last September from their job as long-distance truck drivers. They had covered many miles together as a husband and wife team, a team that also produced four children.Anna and Elmer moved to Colorado Springs in 1976. “When our kids got out of school, we decided to get out of the city and move to the country,” Elmer said.Anna was born June 13, 1943 in Pennsylvania. Three brothers and a sister – all living in Pennsylvania – survive her.Anna and Elmer’s three sons – Darryl, Glenn and Robert – reside in Colorado Springs. Elmer said they were in the process of moving their daughter, Connie, and her husband, an Air Force pilot, to California.Nine grandchildren survive Anna as well.Anna’s funeral was held July 13 at the Woodmen Valley Chapel.Donations can be made to the Woodmen Valley Chapel.
