Grant for park approved

In January, the El Paso County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved an application from Woodmen Hills Metropolitan District for an urban park grant. The grant will be combined with $25,000 in matching funds from the district and used to expand and improve Woodmen Hills Community Park on Woodmen Hills Drive in Falcon.A Great Outdoors Colorado grant provided a portion of the districtís match. The district’s grant application shows that the size of the parkís playground will almost double, for a total of about 3,500 square feet.Nearly half the $50,000 budget is allocated for the purchase of a kid spinner and multi-level equipment, including cargo netting and slide chutes appropriate for children between 2 and 5 years old.The district’s plan also includes a picnic shelter to the south of the existing play area.ìWoodmen Hills Metro District had a master planning process last year so they could position themselves for current and future needsî said Elaine Kleckner, planning manager for the county’s community services department. ìThis particular proposal conforms to that plan.îThe county’s urban park grant program is funded by developer fees. Great Outdoors Colorado is funded by lottery sales.
