Co-owners Sid Harmon and Sherri Carrello established Black Forest Artisans in December. The store offers an outlet where local artists and crafters can sell their wares.Carrello has been in the community 10 years, and Harmon arrived six months ago from Florida. Harmon and Carrello have owned other businesses.ìBasically, there is nowhere to shop in Black Forest, so we have a place to display arts and crafts, with 28 local artists and crafters from Black Forest,î Harmon said.ìWe are not a thrift or second-hand store.îAbout five artists and crafters selling items are also members of the Black Forest Arts and Craft Guild. Items for sale include oil paintings, jewelry, woodwork and honey products. Special orders are available. Space for rent is also available.ìWe are trying to expose the different arts and crafts from the people in Black Forest,î Harmon said. ìIt is amazing to see the craftsmanship. Most of the foot traffic is local. We thought if we sell Black Forest, it is like giving back to the community rather than commercialized products.îThe store takes a commission based on the sellerís asking price. Prices start at $2. Walk-ins are welcome and consignments are accepted at all times. The store, at 11480 Black Forest Road, is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, call 719-231-3494.
