Every year in January (for the past 18 years), we put out our newspaper focused on health care. The new year is a time to reflect and resolve some of the issues that have nagged us during the past year. Among the top 10 resolutions every year ó healthy objectives like exercising, eating healthy, losing weight and self-awareness and self-examination.This month, you will find articles on skin cancer, online exercise options, telemedicine, strokes and the UCHealth stroke unit, addictions beyond drugs and alcohol; and school nutrition.Itís the end of the year, and many businesses that advertise with us are assessing and re-evaluating their advertising strategies while being conscientious about their budgets. We get it. COVID-19 is still with us and still affecting economies worldwide. We have had product shortages, transport issues and inflated prices in the past few months, creating a few insecurities within the business community. The newspaper business is no stranger to market irregularities. The publishing business is highly thick-skinned! Weíve hung in there because of you, our readers and our advertisers.I have two resolutions: Work with our current advertisers so they get the best ìbang for their buck,î pursue new advertisers and keep in front of whatís happening in the Falcon, Peyton, Calhan and Black Forest areas ó and beyond! My second resolve is to never again waste food. I am pretty good about not doing so, but I can be better. Each year, $161 billion worth of food is tossed out in the U.S. ó almost 40% of all food in America is wasted, according to FeedingAmerica.org. ìFood goes to waste at every state of food production and distribution, from farmers to packers and shippers, from manufacturers to retailers to our homes.î Maybe we can all do better. We hope your resolution includes continuing to read The New Falcon Herald. And remember this year to speak up and let us know what you would like to see in your community newspaper.Happy New Year!See you in February! -Michelle
