AARP news – Serving in the community

Recent Black Forest AARP Chapter members engaged in community service projects, including the Salvation Army Fair May 17, and the Senior Resource Council/Gazette ìSuccessful Aging Expoî June 4. Several chapter members were present at the second Salvation Army Senior Services Fair in Colorado Springs. The volunteers provided information and literature on subjects such as Medicare/Medicaid Health Care Law and Drug Coverage; exercising to feel, look better and burn calories; the benefits of AARP membership; and other topics of interest to seniors. The June 4 Senior Resource Council Annual Aging Expo, in partnership with The Gazette, drew more than 1,500 visitors from across the area. The more than 70 vendors provided inspiration, education and entertainment primarily for adults 50 years and older. Twelve Black Forest Chapter volunteers were present, and provided a wide variety of information and literature on health, retirement, senior services and the benefits of AARP memberships. Individuals of all ages interested in activities contributing to the welfare of people might consider joining the Black Forest AARP Chapter. Members socialize and enjoy group meals; learn about things important to mature individuals; and volunteer for community projects. The motto of the chapter is ìTo Serve, Not to be Served.î Contact Chuck at 719-749-9337 for more information.
