Special BOE meeting

In a special meeting of the School District 49 Board of Education Jan. 26, a few changes were made regarding decisions at the regular BOE meeting.IT contract updateThe board modified its original decision to award a 17-month contract to Colorado Computer Support to provide help desk and operational services support. The contract was changed to an 11-month contract.The board also formed an instructional technology committee. The committee will be comprised of IT professionals and educators from D 49. They will ensure the district is effectively implementing IT to support the students. The committee will devise an action plan for the district for the next three to five years.BOE member revokes resignationFollowing the regular BOE meeting, board member Christopher Wright sent in his letter of resignation from the board. Wright wasn’t present at the special meeting but sent a letter revoking his resignation. Since the board didn’t take a vote on Wright’s original letter, he was never officially removed from his position.Special education updateChief education officer Becky Carter updated the board and attendees about the Special Education Advisory Committee. The new focus of the committee is to encourage parent and community involvement and collaboration on special education services district wide. The next committee meeting is Feb. 2 from 9 to 11 a.m. in the central office.Other newsIn a unanimous vote, the board approved the Early Retirement Incentive Program for qualified staff members and the district and charter schools’ amended budget for the 2011-2012 fiscal year.The board was presented with proposed policy changes regarding the kindergarten enrollment age for the Sand Creek Innovation Zone’s three elementary schools. The current policy allows enrollment for children who turn age 5 by Sept. 15. The proposed policy would change that date to Aug. 15. A vote will be taken on this issue at the Feb. 9 BOE meeting.Kim McClelland, iConnect Innovation zone leader, updated the board on the Military Charter School Project. The board suggested that a committee be formed to research the feasibility of a military charter school in D 49.
