On Friday, Nov. 16, the Falcon football team took on the Conifer Lobos in the playoffs. For the first 46 minutes, Falcon found themselves on the losing side of the scoreboard.In the first quarter, on the kick off, Conifer returned the ball for an 88-yard touchdown. A field goal gave the Lobos a 7-0 lead.At half time, the Lobos held a 13-4 lead. Falcon had scored just two safeties because of bad punts. However, Falcon started coming back in the third quarter when Cade Schulze ran for a 30-yard touchdown. Raul Franco kicked the field goal, leaving the score Conifer 13, Falcon 11. Falcon – down by just two points – quickly pulled it together in the fourth quarter. Late in the quarter, Vahn Plambeck ran for a 6-yard touchdown. Although the field goal attempt failed, Falcon won by four points: final score – Falcon 17, Conifer 13.On Saturday, Nov. 24, the Falcons played in the semifinals against the 10-3 Palisade Bulldogs. The first quarter ended without a score.In the second quarter, the Falcons picked it up when Keenen Ballage ran 58 yards to score a touchdown. Raul Franco’s field goal was good. The third quarter ended without a score. In the final seconds of the fourth quarter, Palisade came back with a touchdown and then went for two points to try to take the lead. Falcon sophomore Josh Ross stopped them when he batted away the pass – one of the biggest plays of the game.Still, the game wasn’t over. Palisade recovered an onside kick at the 45-yard-line, but the Falcon defense was determined. The Bulldogs gained just 15 more yards and after three incomplete passes failed to get in to the end zone. With 3.8 seconds left, the Bulldogs attempted a field goal. Lucky for Falcon, the attempt failed, and the final score was Falcon 7, Palisade 6.Falcon plays Berthoud in its first title game Dec. 3 at 1 p.m. at the School District 20 stadium.GO FALCON!!!!!!
