GIRLS SOCCER SPRINGS TO LIFEPractices and tryouts for Sand Creek and Falcon high schoolsí girlsí soccer officially started Feb. 20. The practices are held at Sand Creek High School, and the teams were chosen Feb. 26. The girls are now playing against 5A schools, so this season will be challenging. ìOur coaches tend to combine tactical, technical and fitness regimens into our daily practices,î said Ali Bornhoff, Falcon senior. ìFor Example, our first practice was the exact season starting work out that the Colorado Rapids do, which was pretty exciting.î The turnout for the season is still unpredictable because the soccer team will be playing against new schools, or in Bornhoffís words, ìWeíre playing in uncharted watersî.GIRLS BASKETBALLWith everything said and done, the varsity girls basketball team has accomplished more than expected. Their final record was 12-11, which is respectable and definitely something to be proud of. The girls did make it into districts and played the first game against Thompson Valley High School at Falcon. The game was a close one and left everyone on edge, but the final score was 50-44, with Falcon on the losing side. The loss against Thompson Valley marked the end of the season ñ one well spent.BOYS BASKETBALLThe winter season is over, as is basketball. The varsity boyís basketball team played hard throughout the season and finished with a record of 6-17. They learned a lot this year and are optimistic about next year.READY FOR TRACKThe track team is racing to the top! Practices started on Feb. 20, and itís obvious by the exhausted looks on the runnersí faces that they are working extraordinarily hard. Varsity track is coached by former cheerleading coach Maryanne Wilson, and Vance Gale. Practices start off with a mile run, followed by stretches and specialty drills. ìI think weíll do good overall,î said senior Nick White. ìWeíve got a lot of teams this year. As long as everyone does what they are supposed to do and are serious we will be good.îBASEBALL: PLAY BALLBaseball tryouts started the week of Feb. 20 as well, and the boys are in tip-top shape. They worked off-season lifting, so now the boys are ready to play ball. After they choose teams, they will be practicing for their long awaited trip to Las Vegas, where they will play against three Christian 6A schools during spring break. Varsity baseball is coached by Dale Jackson, Dave Kranz and Steve Ridgway. They have been preparing for the season, and expectations include a successful season.
