Public hearings were held throughout the month of January for comment on the $98 million proposed widening of Woodmen Road, from Highway 24 in Falcon to Interstate 25. Plans include expanding the four-lane road to six, with a two-lane section east toward Falcon on Highway 24 slated for four lanes. The public hearings were part of a federal environmental assessment, required by the National Environment Policy Act. The federal government is expected to contribute about $35 million to the project. The NFH went to press prior to the end of the public comment period, but, according to the county, once the period is complete and a decision in writing is obtained from the Federal Highway Administration, construction will begin.
