WHMD welcomes new parks and recreation director

The parks and recreation department of the Woodmen Hills Metropolitan District has a new director ó Phil Moya has replaced former director Shana MacDonald.Moya has had more than 20 years experience in the field of parks and recreation, including working as the recreation superintendent for the town of Erie, Colorado; and as the recreation program manager for the town of Greeley, Colorado.He and his wife lived in northern Colorado while they raised their family to remain closer to their parents in Fort Collins and Loveland. ìNow that our parents have either retired and moved away or passed on, we started looking for positions in southern Colorado again, and I applied for Woodmen Hills,î he said.ìI enjoy working with staff, volunteers and the community,î Moya said. ìParks and recreation has not only been a career for me, it has been a lifestyle. My family and I love sports; my children participate in basketball, baseball and track and field year round; and I have been either coaching them or assisting their coaches for many years.îMoya said he has extensive experience in recreation programming, facility management and design and construction management of recreation centers and swimming pools. He also has a degree in recreation administration from the University of Northern Colorado.ìWoodmen Hills is a very progressive community that has the desire to have top notch facilities and programs in their district,î he said. ìMy goal is to be able to provide this for Woodmen Hills by utilizing the resources available, keeping up with current trends, planning for future growth in facilities and parks, and providing a fiscally strong department.ìI am very excited to be with Woodmen Hills as their parks and recreation director, and I hope that my years of experience will be beneficial to the growth of the department.î
