The El Paso County Board of Commissioners has given an informal OK to a toll road proposed around the eastern edge of Colorado Springs. The $575 million project – the Springs Toll Road – would connect with Interstate 25 just south of the Air Force Academy at the north and proceed southeast to Woodmen Road. From there, it would proceed to a point east of Marksheffel Road and then turn south to Bradley Road., southeast of the airport. The final section would head west and intersect with Interstate 25. The 33-mile project would make use of existing rights of way.If approved, construction could start as early as next year and be completed by 2012.(See Kathy Hare’s front page article.)
