Nov. 27 is Small Business Saturday. American Express launched the campaign in 2010 as a way to draw attention to the small retail shops that make a community unique.According to American Express, an estimated 110 million people participated in Small Business Saturday in 2020, with a record $19.6 billion in spending, even as the pandemic curbed spending throughout the year.Here is an example of shops that make Black Forest and Peyton distinct.Honey, Tea, and MeHoney, Tea, and Me is a small store in Black Forest run by Shawndel Sievert. She has been operating the company for six years, but has had a brick and mortar shop for three years ó early on in downtown Colorado Springs and now at its current location in Black Forest at 6755 Shoup Road.The store offers exactly what the name suggests: a wide variety of loose leaf teas and all kinds of flavored honeys sourced from the Hanson Honeybee Farm in Calhan.

Prairie PeddlarìI think last summer was the best summer Iíve had at the antique store in town,î said Colleen Zeien, owner of Prairie Peddler in Peyton. Zeien runs Prairie Peddler out of her house in Peyton, but sets up in The Keeping Room in Peyton as well. She will host a holiday open house Nov. 12 and 13, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.ìYou usually have to have an event to draw people,î Zeien said. ìAnd I donít have a lot of events out here, but thatís my big event of the year.î
