The scent of a library

By Coben Scott

One of many events hosted by the Pikes Peak Library is a candle-making course that was open to the public Feb. 10 at the High Prairie Library. Two candle stations were set up, and a wide array of scents were available. While the stations were occupied by amateur candle crafters, sachet bags were an additional project to work on while one waited. Essential oils, warm wax and chit chat filled the air. Everyone participating was conversing with their table neighbors and giving out advice on which rules in the instructions to ignore for the optimal candle. Fittingly, old books and leather were popular aroma choices, emptied by the end of the class, bringing the scent of the library back to their homes.

Shannon Walker, PPLD employee, supervised the event and chatted with participants. Walker works between the High Prairie Library and the Calhan Library, assisting with the events.

Previously, she watched over a watercoloring activity, and she will be part of the March 10 tea blend workshop on at the High Prairie Library.
