Sheriff receives grant for training videos

The El Paso County Board of County Commissioners approved $1,084 grant from the Emergency Services Agency Board to the El Paso County Sheriffís Department. Grants were based on evidence of need and value to the enhancement of emergency services in the community.The sheriffís department will purchase emergency medical training videos and audio visual equipment with the grant money. Topics covered include treating emergency medical emergencies, diabetic and respiratory emergencies, treating blunt trauma and planning for a disaster. According to a county news release, training is needed to help dispatchers have a clearer understanding of the medical conditions that require the response of the fire departments and medical personnel.The ESA is an 11-member board comprised of elected officials from El Paso County, the cities of Colorado Springs and Fountain and representatives from the Colorado Springs Fire Department, El Paso County Fire Chiefís Forum, Memorial and Penrose hospitals, the county health department and other related professionals and community members.
