Once again, itís time to form a team and join the fight against cancer. Relay for Life is already gearing up for its June 7 event, which raises money for cancer research, honors cancer survivors and brings the community together for the cause.Diane Saign, the Falcon/Peyton Relay for Life representative, talked about the Feb. 6 kickoff. ìIt is really a rally,î Saign said. ìWe want folks to know about it, sponsors to know about it; and just come out to check it out to see if they would like to sponsor or form a team and participate.îSaign said one drawback with a smaller community is the limited number of sponsors. ìThere is a Colorado Springs Relay as well, and they get the territory west of Powers, where a lot of businesses are.î Saign said she hopes the publicity will garner maximum participation for the Falcon/Peyton area. As far as the event, Saign said Relay for Life is not a ìrace.îìYou can walk, run, jog ñ the premise is really just to have fun,î she said. ìTeams are assigned campsites around the track and they get decorated; it really just brings the community together.î The event will be held at Sand Creek High Schoolís track, and teams walk the track for 18 hours, alternating members at whatever time interval works for their teams. ìCancer never sleeps, so neither do we,î Saign said. The kickoff is Feb. 6 at 5:30 p.m. at Sand Creek High School.
