For the past 16 years, philanthropist Alan Shawn Feinstein awarded $1 million each year to anti-hunger agencies throughout the United States.This year, High Plains Helping Hands is participating, which means that Feinstein will add money to whatever donations the organization receives during the months of March and April. Feinstein said his $1 million will be divided proportionately in full among the agencies receiving donations from his offer. Details follow: From March 1 through April 30 make checks or pledgespayable to ìHigh Plains Helping Handsî and put ìFeinstein Challengeî in the memo. Food donations are counted as $1 per pound; be sure to tell Helping Hands that the food donations is part of the Feinstein Challenge. Consider organizing a food or pledge drive at work, church, small group, school or community organization during March or April. Donations can be sent or dropped off at High Plains Helping Hands, 7375 Adventure Way, Colorado Springs, CO 80923 (on the Mountain Springs Church Campus, near Black Forest and Woodmen roads). The pantry is open Thursdays and Fridays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the first and third Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, call the pantry at 719-495-3123.
