The El Paso County Parks Department acquired forested land that will be set aside for parks in the Sanctuary in the Pines development. The property was provided through a development agreement between the county and Morley-Howard Investments. The Sanctuary in the Pines residential community is located on 2,738 acres at the corner of Vollmer and Shoup roads. Homes will be built on 6.1-acre lots, according to the county’s news release.The agreement includes deeding the county about 1,069 acres for park purposes. In addition, a full-time park caretaker will be provided, along with a residence for the caretaker and the development company will provide 50 acre-feet of water per year. The park land will be used for open space, trails and park related facilities. About 1,040 acres of the park property is under a conservation easement held by the Palmer Land Trust.The master plan process for the park area will begin in 2008 and include a public survey and community meetings.
