Widening Highway 24
On March 27, the Colorado Department of Transportation sent out a press release announcing that they will be hosting an open house for a proposed roadway improvement project on US Highway 24 from Garrett Road to Woodmen Road. The open house was held April 3, so there wasn’t much notice; however, the NFH will follow up with the plans.
Cherokee Metro District recall
The Cherokee Metropolitan District has set June 4 for a recall election for two board members: Steven Hasbrouck and Linda Keleher. Both are long-time board members with terms ending in May 2025. The vote is by mail-in ballot only — the outcome will be determined June 4.
Cherokee customer Jeremy Atkinson is the chairman of the recall effort, which has garnered 437 signatures out of the 300 required signatures.
Atkinson said it’s time that Cherokee address issues that have been stalemated for too long such as water quality. He said Hasbrouck and Keleher are in denial about water issues in Cherokee. He also cited Hasbrouck’s behavior in board meetings as “disruptive.”
Hasbrouck said he and Keleher are being unfairly treated because they believe there is nothing wrong with the water quality in Cherokee. He said Atkinson came out of nowhere and hadn’t previously been involved with the board. Atkinson said the water issues have prompted him to be more active.
