El Paso County, in partnership with the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority, has developed a corridor preservation plan and access control plan for the Marksheffel Road Corridor Project. The plans define future access along the corridor, analyze transportation needs beyond 2030, determine right-of-way needs and validate the current major transportation corridors plan. The project team will hold an open house to share information about the plans and to gather input for the next stages in the project June 1 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the El Paso County Department of Transportation facility at 3460 Marksheffel Road.Phase 1 of the Marksheffel Road Corridor Project will address the corridor from Black Forest Road to the Peterson Air Force Base East Gate. Phase 2, which addresses State Highway 94 to Mesa Ridge Parkway, is scheduled for a future study. The project team estimates that survey and design will start in 2006, while real estate acquisition and construction is estimated to begin in 2008.
