Library District to bring service to Falcon

The Pikes Peak Library District will use $1.3 million in grant funds to establish library service in the Falcon community in 2007.The library district recently garnered the funds for a bookmobile service expansion project. In 2005, The PPLD Foundation secured a Congestion Mitigation Air Quality grant of $439,863 to purchase a new bookmobile and park the old one in Falcon. The Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments approved an additional $531,540 for the project. These grants, along with PPLD’s required match of $364,597, total $1.3 million, which allow the library district to improve on its original plan and provide a more permanent solution for service in the eastern part of the county.”This project will allow us to provide services in an area that continues to grow,” said Paula Miller, PPLD’s executive director. “It will be a significant improvement from the current four hours per week of bookmobile service.”The new library, about 4,000 square feet, will expand in the future to accommodate the community’s growing needs. It will be located in eastern Falcon off U.S. Highway 24. PPLD has identified this community as a priority because there is an increasing demand for library services among the growing Falcon population.”The community is projected to continue to grow by 500 households per year, and demand for service is already strong in Falcon,” Miller said. “The location should also be conducive to use by Peyton and Calhan residents as well.”The facility will be open 36 hours a week and hold a collection of about 14,000 items, focusing primarily on popular materials and children’s items.
