Law Enforcement Officer of the Year awarded

Each year The Exchange Club of Falcon selects a Law Enforcement Officer of the Year. The 2010 winner, Deputy Don Roycraft, was nominated by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Department and honored at the Falcon club’s December meeting.”Deputy Don” attended Florida State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in criminology. He has played trumpet professionally, worked as a ski instructor and has been a private pilot since he was 14 years old. He is married and has one daughter in college who recently joined the United States Air Force to become a flight nurse.Roycraft currently works in 12 local elementary and junior high schools as a D.A.R.E. and School Resource Officer. In this position for 20 years, he has taught thousands of students about the dangers of drugs and the importance of making good choices and decisions.In addition to classroom instruction, Roycraft works with local scouts, coaches Little League baseball and actively participates with students during outdoor education camping trips, developing team building skills and trust by rappelling sixth-grade students. He is a board member with the Colorado Association of D.A.R.E. Officers, where he is involved in not only making El Paso County a better community, but also works to improve the lives of students and families around the state of Colorado.The Exchange Club of Falcon meets at the Golden Corral on Woodmen at Powers the first and third Tuesdays, 6:30 p.m. For more information about The Exchange Club, call Bob Miller at 641-0752.
