Intel donates big chunk to D 49

Intel Corporation and Staples presented Falcon School District 49 with a $2,977 check – proceeds from a computer-recycling event at the Staples Store on Powers Boulevard. Ten dollars was collected for each carload of computer equipment dropped off on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.The $2,977 raised was allocated to the math and science departments in the Falcon School District.All of the computers donated were recycled. Plastic keyboards, circuit boards and metal components were removed and recycled. Glass from computer monitors can be utilized as a fluxing agent in smelting. A computer monitor also contains an average of 4 to 8 pounds of lead, which is used as a component in new batteries. Copper, steel and aluminum are reclaimed for use in manufacturing other products.
