Since its inception 50 years ago, the Falcon Fire Department has been the heart and soul of this community.
When our family moved here in 1980, Falcon itself was nothing more than a collection of scattered homesteads, with a few schools and a fledgling fire department. Construction had just begun on the first fire station located at Meridian and Woodmen roads, but we were immediately impressed by the volunteers, who worked with one goal in mind — to create a safer community.
For some, it was a major family endeavor, with both spouses serving as emergency responders. For others, each partner took on a different role. But whether fighting fires, responding to medical emergencies, training, building the fire station or holding fundraising events, these volunteers formed a tight-knit unit that left a lasting legacy in Falcon.
Some of the volunteers’ children followed in their parents’ footsteps. Today, they are members of the Falcon Fire Protection District, or are serving in departments throughout the Pikes Peak region.
As the town’s population grew, so did the need for more dedicated emergency responders. Now, there are about 65 full-time employees, covering five stations. And like the early volunteers before them, their service makes Falcon a better place to live.
With gratitude,
Kathy and Mike Hare
