The Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries, an organization providing standards for identifying legitimate animal sanctuaries, announced that Front Range Equine Rescue became the first accredited Colorado equine rescue and sanctuary. The accreditation signifies the implementation of clear and respected international standards; enabling the public, donors and government agencies to recognize credible sanctuaries that adhere to the true mission of providing a safe haven and humane care for abused animals.”Front Range Equine Rescue is a national leader,” said Patty Finch, executive director of GFAS, “with outstanding educational outreach on horse abuse, horse slaughter and wild horse issues. Their mailings reach more than 80,000 households nationally with solid information on these vital issues.”Hilary Wood is the president and founder of Front Range Equine Rescue. She and the board of directors have instituted many programs, including those that provide direct rescue, rehabilitation and adoption of horses to qualified homes. Other programs include special projects such as “Stop the Backyard Breeder,” a reimbursement program for gelding stud colts/stallions; “Trails End,” financial assistance with humane euthanasia when appropriate; fire/disaster evacuation for horses; and national campaigns to end horse slaughter and save America’s wild horse herds. Their educational programs offer annual clinics and seminars on a variety of horse-related topics emphasizing owner responsibility and strengthening the horse-owner partnership. Front Range Equine Rescue also offers useful tips to horse owners on how to safely re-home their horse.GFAS is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the sole purpose of strengthening and supporting the work of animal sanctuaries in the United States and abroad. The goal of GFAS in working with and assisting sanctuaries is to ensure they are supported, honored, recognized and rewarded for meeting important criteria in providing care to the animals in residence.
