It is October, and there is lots going on, especially with District 49, which has been in the news lately. In this issue, we talked to Peter Hilts about D 49ís COVID-19 protocols and the publicity they have received because of†shutdowns of a couple of schools due to the pandemic. We also received a statement from Falcon High Schoolís principal after ìThe Gazetteî featured an article on the schoolís football team, which had been investigated for hazing and harassment. Apparently, the investigation has been completed. As always, by the time we are on the stands, things often change.†Iíve said this many times, but it is impossible when weíre a monthly newspaper to keep up with daily events. So we have to think outside of the box, and we would like our newspaper to be a printed version of a community center.I did a little research on what makes up a community. There are different types of communities but basically community means people brought together by geographic backgrounds, practice or circumstance or interests and†passions. I think it is difficult to bring people together when there is no center, no focus, no common goals, no real leadership or structure in an unincorporated town.When we started the newspaper way back in 2004, Falcon was still a tiny town. But people knew each other because it was so small. We formed a chamber; many people were going through the necessary avenues to†incorporate Falcon; others were dead set against it.†But still a community was forming.†And then we grew like a wild fire and that sense of community was hosed down.†In the early days, businesses supported each other. We had a boom in advertising and we had a very successful business expo every year. Now, it seems to be about everyone fending for themselves.†The only way we can keep this newspaper going is through advertising. Although you might think you donít need to advertise, new residents need to know you are part of their community. We want this ìcommunityî to support†you, too, and we need you to support us. And we need readers, too. We want our readers to be involved with our newspaper. Tell us whatís happening around you.
