Some people truly inspire us, and we never tire of hearing about them.In this issue, inspiration comes from the young and the old. Alicia Littlejohn had the opportunity to meet with D 49 Skyview Middle School’s eighth-grade choir. Lead by music teacher Harriet Jarmon, they will be heading to New York to perform at Carnegie Hall in April. The honor choir is one of six selected from around the country. This is not just one or two children – it’s a group of 28 talented young people!Last week, two outstanding athletes from Falcon High School reaped the benefits of their hard work and perseverance when they signed with the colleges of their choice. Judi Tobias was there for national signing day on Feb. 6 and tells us the story of Keenen Ballage and Brenden Condon who signed letters of intent. Ballage signed with Colorado State University on a track scholarship and Condon signed with Western State in Gunnison on a football scholarship. Both of these young men play multiple sports. Two high school graduates from our community received dean’s list honors for the fall semester of 2007 at their respective colleges. Jayme Kay Starr is on the Eastern New Mexico University’s honor roll, and Moriah Gerrish received her honors for first year studies at Notre Dame. And then there are the inspirations that come from the more ‘mature.’ Marylou Doehrman had the opportunity to interview Jack LaLanne, fitness guru. LaLanne started out as a teen in his quest for good health and never stopped. He’s been an inspiration for too many people to count over the years. Speaking of years, he is 93 years old. Yes, 93! His philosophy is simple – feed your body good food and exercise to stay fit. For those of us waning a bit on our New Year’s resolution to lose weight and get in shape, LaLanne is a reminder to the benefits of healthy living.Look around you and see who is an inspiration – then be sure to tell us about them!-Deb, Michelle and the NFH Team
