A couple of weeks ago we hinted that a few changes would occur over the next few weeks concerning The New Falcon Herald. It’s time to announce our biggest change. This issue is Marylou Doehrman’s last as the full time editor for the NFH. I bought her share of the newspaper in September. Marylou has been the creative force and editorial end of the newspaper since the beginning. The two of us started the newspaper almost four years ago, and we have been both amazed and daunted by the growth of the NFH.Marylou has been living in Florida, and it’s time for her to move on (read the Monkey Chronicles for Marylou’s version of this change).Partnerships are like marriages, and jokingly I once told Marylou that I was already married and I didn’t need another spouse. However, we’ve weathered the good times and the bad. This isn’t a divorce – it’s a friendly arrangement. And Marylou will continue to contribute her editing skills to the NFH.Deb Stumpf is stepping in as the coordinating editor of the NFH. Deb’s background is varied – she has experience in public relations, technical writing, accounting and management. I am confident that Deb will maintain the same high standards for the editorial part of this newspaper as Marylou has.So, that’s the biggest change – and that’s enough for now.I also want to welcome Chandra Bartlett to our team of writers. Chandra is a student at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and also works at her family’s business, Bartlett Hay in Falcon. And we’re back on track with D 49 sports this month.Part of this issue is dedicated to Falcon’s own Dane Balcon, who died in Iraq in September. We all hope that Dane’s story provides insight into the hearts and souls of many of our military men and women. Thank you to Carla Sizer, Dane’s mom, for sharing his story with us.See you Oct. 20. -Michelle and the NFH team
