If a neighbor or someone else is not following the guidelines and restrictions for safe fires, whenever possible, approach the person directly and explain your concerns as a good neighbor. Many do not realize they are doing something unsafe or illegal.Friendly talk builds trust, especially when the goal is the safety of all. Most people feel better knowing that neighbors are looking out for each other. If the direct approach doesn’t work, or you cannot speak to the person, then it is appropriate to call 911.
