Gearing up for fall
By Tonni Sultana
Summer brings a natural pause. People travel, spend time with family or take a much-needed break from busy schedules. Whether you’re hiking the trails, tending to your garden or simply enjoying a slower rhythm, we hope you’re finding time to recharge.
For Friends of Falcon, this season has offered a welcome moment to reflect, regroup and look ahead. While we’re not hosting as many events or updates right now, rest assured — we’re still here, and we’re thinking ahead to return to community activities.
Volunteer needs: Behind the scenes, we’re always organizing for upcoming conservation efforts. If you’re interested in lending a hand — either on the ground or behind the scenes — drop us a note. Your energy is always welcome.
Public works: The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is repaving a 13.5‐mile stretch of U.S. Highway 24. There are proposals and preliminary designs to widen Highway 24 farther east of Falcon, particularly extending the four‐lane configuration from Garrett Road to Woodmen Road.
Some utility infrastructure is being upgraded in relation to future development at Falcon Market Place. This required lane closures and road work, particularly along Eastonville Road west of Meridian Road, to tap into water lines and support development.
Sheriff’s substation: Substation work continues in Falcon. This substation is being financed ($15 — $16 million), with expected completion in the fall of 2026. It will allow faster law enforcement response times by placing patrol resources closer to residents in the area.
Falcon is clearly seeing action from public works agencies to match its growth. Upgrades in roads, law enforcement infrastructure and utilities are underway or recently completed to make life safer and more efficient. However, responsible development and more controlled growth is necessary for our community to sustain its urban living environment, which we advocate for.
