For or against, residents speak out

Local residents have taken up the incorporation cause: some say yes; others say no. Theyíre all attending meetings and expressing opinions. On May 10, about 80 people attended a meeting at the Falcon Fire Protection District station to organize an opposition plan to the incorporation efforts prior to the May 29 vote.Representatives of Falcon Area Residents Operating Under Truth encouraged the group to be proactive in educating the community about the incorporation effort. John Seetch, a FAROUT member and chairman of the meeting, said, ìIf we get the word out, we can beat this thing, but we can only beat it if people know about it, and they show up and vote.îSeetch suggested that those opposed to the incorporation of Falcon post opposition signage, call neighbors to discuss the issue and submit opinion letters to local newspapers.Jeannie Seetch, also a FAROUT member, said, ìThe goal of FAROUT is get the word out to Falcon residents because this vote may completely change our way of life.îJohn and Jeannie Seetch live at Falcon Meadows on the northwest edge of the proposed Falcon town boundary.Jeannie said she also had attended public meetings held by the Falcon Incorporation Committee, proponents of the incorporation. When the Falcon Meadows area was included in the boundaries, she met with FIC members and sent certified letters to the group asking to be excluded from the boundaries. She said the FIC would not comply.Falcon resident Dave Beadles attended a FIC meeting held earlier this year. He will vote in favor of incorporation. Beadles said the possibility of Colorado Springs annexing the Falcon area is a concern of his. ìTo me, it boils down to I know Colorado Springs has three ways to annex,î he said. ìSome day, I feel in my heart, the city of Colorado Springs will annex part of Falcon.îJeannie Seetch, who also is an election judge, said her concerns involve the proposed town charter articles. She said the possibility of eminent domain over water, additional taxes on water, electricity and gas and increased property taxes are a few of her concerns.ìThey wonít be able to provide what the county provides. I donít want to pay more for less service,î Seetch said. ìI am very happy with the county-provided services we currently have.îBoth proponents and opponents of the incorporation issue have scheduled meetings to be held before the election.
