Falcon twirler wins state second year in a row

Kiley West, an 11-year-old member of the Pikes Peak Twirlers, has a quiet determination but is a fierce competitor. In February 2013, she watched her first contest; and, two months later, she won the Colorado State Novice Solo Championship for her age division. This year, she won her second state solo title at the beginner level, defeating girls from Denverís Colorado Twirls, who have been twirling since they were age 5.Kiley is more than willing to put in the time and effort needed to win. It takes an enormous amount of practice and persistence to master a trick and make it look easy. There are a lot of bumps, bruises and frustrations along the way, but Kileyís perseverance makes her a joy to teach. To excel as a twirler, you have to be brave and bold. Not only did Kiley win another state solo title in May, but she also competed and won the Show Twirl event, performing on the floor by herself. She had the confidence and skills to do a great job, receiving glowing remarks from the judge.Kiley has certainly come a long way in a short amount of time, which is most impressive; and it makes her coaches, Krissy and Carlie Anderson, very proud.
