Exchange Club purchases items for child abuse victims

Wilene M. Lampert, Ph.D., director of Safe Passage, spoke at the Exchange Club of Falcon meeting March 19. Lampert said Safe Passage gives abused children a voice and enables the healing process by acting as the single source of contact for medical, investigative and legal services. The group works with law enforcement officers, nurses, therapists and prosecutors in a collaborative effort to help abused children.Safe Passage has existed for 19 years and reports that an average of 1,300 people received crisis intervention and advocacy services, which included 900 child victims. Interested Exchange Club members posed several questions. Ursula Miller, chairwoman of child abuse prevention, along with committee members presented Lampert with items they purchased (juice, snacks and underwear for boys and girls) to assist Safe Passage.The Exchange Club has placed two signs in the Falcon area with a graphic of a crying baby and a teen. The signs read ìHelp Stop Child Abuse.î You can help by being alert and willing to report abuse to the child abuse hotline at 719-444-5700. If itís an emergent situation, call 911.
