School officials and contractors broke ground on Jan. 17 for the expansion project for the Meridian Ranch Elementary School. The project follows voter approval of the mill levy override last fall. According to a news release, the school is 155 percent over capacity. The current enrollment at Meridian Ranch is 432, although the initial capacity was capped at 275.The new project includes the addition of 23,250 square feet, with a cost of $2,906,000. The new space also will allow for an additional 350 students. Current enrollment at Meridian Ranch Elementary school is 432; the school was built to hold 275.
