Tanner Bush of Peyton is one of 200 middle school students nationwide accepted to the Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington D.C.This year’s conference theme is “The Legacy of American Leadership.””The aim of the Junior National Young Leaders Conference is to inspire students like Tanner Bush to recognize their own leadership skills, measure their skills against those of current and former leaders and return home with new found confidence in their ability to exercise positive influence within their communities,” said Mike Lasday, the executive director of the Congressional Youth Leadership Council, the sponsoring organization. “Young people are not only welcome in Washington, D.C.; they actually keep this city and our county running.”President Bush will take part in the activities throughout the week of July 9 to July 18, and participants will meet other elected officials and key Congressional staff members. The students also will visit historical places, like the National Museum of American History and the capitol’s monuments and memorials.Led by the President, the group will study the impact of leaders throughout America’s history. The students own leadership skills will be challenged when they look at today’s issues in the U.S., including poverty and the environment. The Congressional Youth Leadership Council is a nonprofit, nonpartisan educational organization, and, since 1985, the council has helped more than 200,000 young people learn how to achieve their leadership potential.About TannerTeachers from Woodmen Hills Elementary nominated Tanner because of his excellent academic achievements.
