Groundbreaking for Springs Ranch Elementary SchoolIn 2002, Springs Elementary was built to accommodate 450 students. Today, 700 students walk the halls of Springs Ranch making it 156 percent over capacity.A groundbreaking for an expansion project that will improve those numbers took place in March. The project is part of the mill levy override approved by voters last fall, and it will include an additional 11,800 square feet at a cost of $1,400,000.Merchants give $3,000 to D 49 teachersThe merchants at First & Main Town Center have donated more than $3,000 to the Falcon Education Foundation for teacher grant requests. The money was raised through the parking meters at First & Main Town Center on Powers Boulevard.Full-day kindergarten returnsThe D 49 School Board of Education has reinstated one full-day kindergarten class starting next year at every elementary school site in D 49. If a particular school has more space available, additional kindergarten classes could be added.The district-wide kindergarten classes had been eliminated because of overcrowding, with the exception of Falcon Elementary School. The school expansion project is allowing the reinstatement.
