County residents cleaning it up at faster pace

Figures from the El Paso County Environmental Services Department show a 201-percent increase over last year in participation at the Household Chemical Waste Collection Facility.The county is trying to encourage citizens to become involved in the environmental revolution to protect and restore the earth. “El Paso County residents can clean up their households and the environment by bringing common chemical wastes to the collection facility located at 3470 No. Marksheffel Road,” said Kathy Claes, solid waste management division manager.The facility is open year-round Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The facility accepts paint and paint-related products, lawn and garden chemicals, household chemicals, including aerosols, cleaners, medicines and poisons. It also accepts automotive products other than batteries and tires, propane cylinders and explosives.
