County doles out developers fees to school districts

The El Paso County Board of Commissioners approved the distribution of subdivision plan and plat fees, totaling about $121,000, to six school districts within the county. According to a county news release, the funds were disseminated as follows:Academy School District 20-$31,828 – Funds will be used for the implementation of the 2007 capital improvement plan.Ellicott School District 22-$6,805 – Funds will be used to offset architectural and planning services for the additional elementary school building.Falcon School District 49-$41,412 – Funds will be used to purchase furniture and equipment for the new high school.Lewis-Palmer School District 38-$8,008 – Funds will be used to purchase land for the development of additional school sites.Manitou Springs Public Schools-$925 – Funds will be used toward the replacement cost of a new milk cooler for Ute Pass Elementary School.Widefield School District 3-$32,699.42 – Funds will be placed in the capital reserve fund to assist in alleviating the cost of constructing a new transportation center.ìThis is an important part of growth paving its own way,î said Commissioner Wayne Williams. ìThese fees, paid by developers, go directly to assist with school districtsí capital needs.îAs the state statutes dictate, county commissioners hold subdivision plan and plat fees for the local school districts until the school districts request the funds. They must state the specific use for such funds as permitted by the statutes.
