The El Paso County Board of County Commissioners selected Jay A. Lauer as the new county attorney. Lauer will receive an annual salary of $120,000.The county attorney represents the interests of the commissioners, the various administrative departments and appointed advisory boards. The county attorney also provides representation in social services matters and mental health and commitment proceedings.Lauer has worked for El Paso County since July 1998 and has been serving as the acting county attorney since January. Previously, he was the chief assistant to the county attorney, representing the county in civil litigation and appeals in state and federal courts.Lauer is a 22-year member of the United States Air Force.ìDuring his time as acting county attorney, Jay proved that he was the top candidate to be county attorney, said Dennis Hisey, board chair.
