The El Paso County Board of County Commissioners approved 16 acres of conservation easement from Six Ninety Nine LA, LLC. The land, located west of Meridian Road, is designated as open space and sits adjacent to a 35-acre open space area in the Paint Brush Hills subdivision.A conservation easement allows the county to designate an open space area without spending taxpayer dollars. There are limits on the types of activities that can occur on an easement property, including the amount of development allowed and any mining or clear cutting. However, the landowner still owns the property, and can sell the property, continue farming activities, and/or use the property for recreational purposes.
