The El Paso County Fairgrounds is hosting a Christmas Light Display Competition.Sponsored by Mountain View Electric Association, four divisions will vie for trophies and a cash prize: best business display, best youth group display, best family display and best individual display.Assembly of the displays at the El Paso County Fairgrounds can begin on Saturday, Dec. 1; designers can continue working on the displays through Dec. 14 at 4 p.m. The light displays will judged and featured at the Calhan Country Christmas celebration. Awards will be presented Dec. 14 at 8:30 p.m. in the Whittemore Building.The Christmas Light Competition event is being held in conjunction with the Calhan Christmas Parade of Lights, the town of Calhan and the El Paso County Fairgrounds inaugural Calhan Country Christmas, from 6 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, including events and entertainment for the entire family:The Parade of Lights starts at 7 p.m. Santa photo ops take place at 8 p.m., as well as refreshments and live music featuring Fire Line. The festivities also include hay rides, a live nativity scene, Colorado Springs Astronomical Society telescopes (weather permitting), strolling carolers and music by the Colorado Youth Symphony members. A bull riding event will take place at the fairgrounds at 8 p.m. ó a separate ticket purchase is necessary and seating is limited. Admission is $1 per person, no charge for children under age 3.
